Limpets & Barnacles No.6

£350.00 GBP

Shipping costs will be calculated at checkout.

Inspiration comes from daily walks on my local beach. I often pick up a limpet shell and like to study their unique mark making. No two are the same! I especially love the beach at low tide, investigating the rock pools.

Did you know limpets have teeth and are able to travel on the rock surface in search of food. They have a very powerful foot that enables them to cling onto the rock surface during strong tidal currents. I find them fascinating!

My limpets are based on the Eurasian limpet, Patella Vulgata and the common barnacle, balanus perforatus.

Handcrafted felt is made using the wet felting technique with  layers of Merino wool fibres, nepps and hand dyed silk to create lots of texture and interest.  The limpets are hand stitched with artisan painted merino wool thread. The work has approximately 2cm of depth (see photo).

Many hours goes into producing a piece of work.

Limpets & Barnacles  has been professionally framed in a bespoke bare wood St Ives frame. I am proud to use wooden frames that come from an FSC certified forest. 'FSC  - certified forests are managed with consideration for people, wildlife and the environment.'

The picture has been mounted onto board and set beneath the St Ives frame, this style of frame is open, unglazed so work can be touched, with fixings ready to hang.

An authentication label which I have signed along with description and methodology is included.

Overall Frame Size 27 x 27 cm x 2.5cm  (10.5 x 10.5 inch)

Actual work size approx 17.2 x 17.2 cm  (6.75 x 6.75 inch)

Additional photos available on request.
