Description:

The workshop is delivered by Lynn Comley.

Join me for an enjoyable morning stitching a Daisy inspired picture. The workshop will be held in the magnificent Scampston Hall conservatory in the award-winning walled garden. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the re-mastered gardens by the well renowned dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf. Why not combine a garden visit with the exhibition and a workshop. There is a lovely cafe on site too.

Workshop participants will hand embroider a daisy picture using a piece of handcrafted felt prepared by Lynn. I will guide you through the embroidery techniques I use.

Each piece of felt has lots of textures which creates an interesting background, a starting point for the daisy design. The Daisies will be the focal point of the picture.

Embroidery threads that compliment the design will be provided. In the allocated time  each participant should be able to complete the picture. If not, don't worry you can take the threads to finish at home. I will demonstrate how to mount (string) the work  onto conservation board prior to framing, this ensures the work will not fall in the frame in the future. A picture frame and mounting materials will be provided for you to take home a completed picture.

Felt is a surprisingly strong fabric, a lovely medium to stitch into, no two pieces will ever be the same, this should be embraced, this is the time to show your creativity, as the design can be adapted to add your personal mark.

You do not need any prior experience and you will be provided with all the necessary materials and equipment to use on the day. Please note this purely an embroidery workshop. Please see my other workshops if you are interested in learning how to make wet felt.

Please note:

FREE entry if attending a workshop or the  Embracing Wool exhibition.

A ticket must be purchased at the gate if you would also like to view the gardens.

Tutor:

Lynn Comley is a contemporary felt maker perhaps best known as UpandDownDale in the felt making world; creating wet felted textile art, embellished with free motion machine embroidery, hand stitch or both! Within her work she uses a combination of natural materials that include wool, silk and linen.

Living by the sea and surrounded by the North York Moors National Park, Lynn's artistic focus is on the natural minutia of her surroundings. She enjoys engaging with the delicate patterns and intricacies of nature, focusing more recently on moss, lichen and limpets but frequently returns to her original inspiration of landscapes, seascapes and hedgerow flora. Her work sells internationally. www.upanddowndale.co.uk
