Lichens Viewpoint I

This textural work was inspired by lichens growing on a dry-stone wall. My studies are not intended to be direct facsimiles, instead I take inspiration from their form, colour and patterns and interpret that in my felt and stitch work. Handcrafted felt was made using the wet felting technique with layers of merino wool fibres and silk. Finished with free motion machine and hand embroidery.

Professionally framed in a beautiful bare faced oak bevelled circular frame.

The frame is a good quality, solid oak which has been not been varnished so the natural grain compliments the work. The frame is open, i.e. not behind glazing. Ready to hang. An authentication label which I have also signed along with description is included.

Many hours goes into producing a piece of work.

My lichen studies have been featured in both UK and Australian publications and exhibited at 'Planting Ideas' exhibition St Barbe Museum and Gallery, Lymington, New Forest National Park, UK  and soon to be part of Embracing Wool exhibition at Burton Constable Hall Stables Gallery 14 May to 14th July 2024

Overall Frame Size 23 cm diameter (9 inches approx.) x 2.5cm depth

Actual work size 17 cm  (7. inches approx. )
