Moss and Lichen on a Dry Stone Wall

This  large textural work was inspired by lichens growing on a dry-stone wall. My studies are not intended to be direct facsimiles, instead I take inspiration from their form, colour and patterns and interpret that in my felt and stitch work. 

Felt created using the wet felting technique. With hand embroidery using couching, fly stitch and bullion knots.

I love to get lots of texture in my moss and lichen studies, this piece of work involved many hours of hand stitching, my largest piece to date.
